ABOUT ME

Untitled

I am am interdisciplinary researcher (archaeological, historical, anthropological and sociological topics) and (audio-) visual artist (photography, mixed media and film). I have worked in the field of archaeology in Syria, Egypt, Greece and Turkey and I have lived in Turkey from 2010-2015 where I have been setting up and carrying out an oral history research&photography&film project 'The Tophane Heritage Project' for the Netherlands Institute in Istanbul (NIT): http://www.nit-istanbul.org/projects/tophane-heritage-project. In Istanbul I was also involved in giving art workshops and classes for children of migrants and refugees.

Mainly due to my earlier experiences in Syria (2002, 2003 and 2004) I became involved in various organisations and initiatives supporting refugees from Syria in Turkey and in Greece between 2014 and 2018.

From 2015 till 2017 I have been living alternately in the Netherlands, Turkey and Greece and from April 2017 till July 2018 in Cyprus.

My interests have always revolved around the Eastern Mediterranean area and themes such as heritage, (oral) history, politics, social change, marginalized groups, identity, migration and visual methods.

With my photographic works as well as with my mixed technique works (painting, gum printing and collages) I have participated in several exhibitions in The Netherlands, France, Turkey and Cyprus.

As a freelancer I am now carrying out art projects, photography and video projects as well as research as part of socially engaged initiatives.
